"Oh, it's you again," I say, trying to play it cool. My hand instinctively went to my hair, which was probably a mess after all the humidity in this school.
He chuckled. "I don't know if you know this, but I'm Rome," he said, his cheeks flushing pink.
"Yeah, and im Athena" I beamed, while smileing brightly.
"Like the god?" Rome asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners.
I laughed, rubbing my eye as it suddenly itched. "And Rome like the place?"
Rome grinned. "Unfortunately."
I winced as I realized I'd gotten mascara all around my eye. "Is my mascara ruined?" I asked, feeling a surge of panic.
Rome's expression turned sympathetic. "Um, do you mean the black stuff around your eye?"
I nodded, feeling mortified.
He chuckled. "Yeah, it's kinda...fucked up."
I rummaged through my backpack for my compact mirror and pulled it out.
"Would you mind holding this for me?" I asked, trying to sound casual despite the embarrassment creeping up my face.
Rome took the mirror from me, his fingers brushing against mine as he did so.
