To put it in the simplest of terms, Olivia Grayson, was dying. She had a brain tumor, the size of a golf ball, tightly wrapped around the stem of her brain. Her doctor had never seen anything like it. The tumor was not cancerous. However, it was growing at a rate that seemed almost magical. When her estranged father called asking to spend time with her, Olivia was appalled. However, she decided to give it a month in Mystic Falls. That is where she meets Klaus. Klaus has been reeling since 1924. Since the only woman he ever loved was brutally attacked and killed. That is until he meets Olivia. There is a soft familiarity about her he can't shake. They quickly fall in love. Now, Klaus is presented with a choice: Let Olivia die, or selfishly take away her soul?
