The Shadow World thought that doom would approach them as soon as they got word of the Mortal Cup's new owner; Valentine Morgenstern. This was because now, he could, in fact, create an army loyal only to himself. However, not all goes according to plan, when he raids a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and kidnaps a certain young woman by the name of Ethel Walters. That one action may just begin to change his luck for the worst.

In which Ethel Walters grows up as the daughter of a fantasy novel author, and greatly disbeliefs in the supernatural. That is until she's kidnapped by a Shadowhunter cult, which leads her down a path of truth unveiling. Here, she will discover new things about her past, venture into a tremendously dangerous present, and step into an uncertain future. All the while, she's supported by her new friends at the New York Institute, with one of them in particular catching her eye.
