After losing her memory, Cashmere has been struggling to fit in high school again. Her side affects from the memory loss are: depression and ideation, along with Jack still tormenting her, despite what happened with Tiffany in the first book (Always Be Forever).
Cashmere is still friends with Alex, Ben, Jason, and Snow, who get caught in the ways of Jack's crimes against those around him.
Rose and Leandro aren't mentioned, as Alex's way of dealing with the memory loss is by ignoring it and pretending that Rose and Leandro never existed. Jason and Snow eventually eventually find their way back to each other, but it's unlike any other relationship.
Cashmere has to deal with suicide attempts, sexual assault, a court case against her from Jack, and so much more. How much can Cashmere take on before everything she thought was normal turns out to not be normal anymore, and she has to face the reality that once tried to get rid of her?
Ethan + Iria, until death do us apart and we meet in hell. You could say it was the original promise, the one they got tattooed on their skin and, above the hundreds of things they had ever promised each other, promised once again not to break. It should be a different promise. It should have a different meaning but...
Does it really?
It's been nine months. Nine months full of nightmares and pain where Iria and Ethan seemed to forget about every promise. Their friendship seemed insurmountable after the months of coldness until Ethan makes an important decision that will turn the tables of the situation they are living.
One last promise, save Iria from her sadness.
It didn't seem as hard at first but then Ethan realizes his friend's critical situation. He can just rely on the memories from when they were kids, on all those things that once distracted them from a bad childhood, such as The Neighbourhood's songs, blanket forts or irrational plans during getaways.
What Ethan didn't remember was how good his best friend kissed.
Can Ethan save his best friend from her grief without changing his feeling or decision at all? Can Iria get finally over her Wonder Boy and accept Ethan's help without screwing the only precious thing she has left, Ethan's friendship?
Can Ethan and Iria learn to love again or will they stay in the past forever?
