When the Crown Yearns

Kol lived an impoverished life for as long as she could remember. Her saving grace was an engagement to the son of a neighboring farmer barely richer than herself. So imagine her surprise when a retinue sent by the newly appointed King arrived on her doorstep announcing that she had been chosen to be the next Queen. But Kol was wary. She was taught in life that most things came with conditions, and her situation was no different. As the next Queen, Kol learned that she had been tasked to produce the next heir to the throne within the year, or she and her only living relative forfeit their lives. To her surprise, she was not the first one given this task. Kol was more than happy to sacrifice her dignity for survival. The problem does not lie with her, but with the King. The King who has been solely devoted to a forbidden love. So loyal and unyielding that he has sent others before Kol to the executioner's axe without remorse. So what could Kol do? Whose help could she enlist? And in the end, would she be able to save herself, and her mother, from dying? Or will she foolishly succumb to death?
