I've never understood Maria. 
She was my own twin sister, but seemed more like a stranger. Sheathed in her own world of mystery and gloom, she was called weird by everyone. The least liked child. The girl who slipped into the shadows and was long gone by the time you realized.
I was clueless most of the time, but I certainly knew two things about her:
a) She was scary.
b) It started-and ended-when we were five.
