Sunny Heuwerth endures bullying every day in the halls of Tanglewood High School with a quiet manner of resilience. Back at home, her mother, Shannon, is an alcoholic who often leaves Sunny emotionally alone. Up until one day, she meets a guy named Jace Walnut, who moves into a home next door to her. Despite the darkness that clouds her life, Sunny finds a halo of light within Jace. Jace Walnut is a mysterious guy with a devastating past who moved to Tanglewood to look after his sick grandmother. He forms a romantic relationship with Sunny due to her generosity, helping him find his place in Tanglewood.

Sunny and Jace discover a disturbing snuff video of an anonymous figure strangling a young woman. Beyond terrified, the two teens head to the local police station to report a crime. The police decide to launch an investigation into the strange snuff film. Three weeks later, Sunny learns that the criminal investigation of the snuff film has gone cold. With a series of nightmares and images of that woman being choked to death, Sunny hooks onto this investigation and begs Jace to help her until he agrees.

They begin to slowly uncover dark secrets about the truth behind the sinister film and the people around them. Little do they know that somewhere nearby, the killer is lurking, ready to make sure the truth stays buried.
