Tiana Beauford has always wanted more power, even though she was the heir to the throne of her prosperous kingdom, Caplan. The only step up in power was the Imperial throne, but Tiana knew that she wasn't stupid enough to hope for control over the whole Empire of Miklos. So Tiana put those thoughts to rest. 
Until a fateful ball where she meets the illegitimate child of the Emperor, Ptolemy. Time passes, and she befriends the boy. But when Tiana discovers the corruption, scandals, and lies within the Imperial court, she realizes that her dreams of sovereignty aren't as unrealistic as she had thought.  As she grapples with her complicated feelings for Ptolemy, she becomes determined to make a change for the good of Miklos.
Can Tiana make the right decision for the good of the Empire, even if it means starting a revolution, or even a war?
