Joseph Jackson, a twelve year old African American boy, loves to play baseball. He loves the feeling of dirt beneath his shoes and the distinct smell of his leather glove that he's had since he first started playing baseball. Joseph's dream is to play for the world-renowned New York Yankees. His conscience always tells him that baseball is the path that will bring him true happiness in life, but there is one very large obstacle that stands in his way. That obstacle is the Great Depression. If he wants to continue playing the sport he loves and chasing his dream, he will have to leave his Mom and younger brother behind. On top of that, his Dad has been arrested. Good counsel tells him to stay with his family until they can fully recover from the depression, but his heart longs to play. Is his dream of playing with the Yankees only an illusion or is his love true? The decision that he makes will forever impact the path for him to follow for the rest of his life. All Rights Reserved
