Forever Promises Don't Always Last Forever

When Bruce was young he believed in promises- specifically from his parents-he believed the simple promises of going out for ice cream or getting a new toy, he believed the promises of his favorite things being given to him as a gift for his birthday or as a reward for good behavior in school (or just in general). But to be fair, those were promises his parents honestly did keep, something their wealth and status could easily afford, but it didn't mean their desire to get him those things was made any less special cause of that reason.
But one of the worst promises he ever believed was what he liked to call "the forever promises." To get some context we would have to go back to a Charity Gala held by no other than Martha Wayne-

Angst Damian Wayne One Shots
Want something to cry over, well here is a bunch of angsty one shots. Some will be very short while others that are much longer. There will be suicide and suicidal thoughts, character death, self harm, a bad mental space, and a very dark and sad mood. These one shots will be centered around Damian Wayne with the Bat family and Teen titans. These one shots will ALSO include: Fighting, Hurt, Alcohol, Language, Neglection, Depression, Addiction, Abuse, Swearing, Smoking/Vaping, Blood, Eating Disorders, and Drugs. There might be a few one shots were it ends on a more positive tone but for the most part its dark. Bruce will probably be a bad dad in most of these one shots, and everybody neglects Damian basically. I do take requests so if you have any ideas that you want me to write I would happily write it. Even though the story is completed, I will continue to update this every once in a while so I still can take requests.Complete

He had been Bruce's support, when Gotham Children Services needed Bruce to shape up after Dick's parent's death then they got married. The only get the house ready was in the form of [M/N], his closest piece. When Bruce arrived to the academy after his parents death, he met [M/N] and sought him out to give him peace. Bruce having given what was enough to his husband who loved him dearly, and yet kept himself out of finger-tip reach. Now after many years, [M/N] was wearing down himself, his marriage and his kids. Oh, his kids, his Kids who began taking after Bruce in ways that broke [M/N]'s heart. Maybe they viewed him in a way like an object, that he will always be there and they're right. Now after another missed birthday, [M/N] began to hear and feel things. His family says he's asking for attention, that it's nothing. Until he finds a small door with an interesting key. Small Steps
Bruce doesn't think of himself as a horrible person. He knows he's not perfect, but he tries at least. And he likes to believe that has to count for something. He loves his kids, his partner, and the man who raised him more than he knows how to say. That's the problem, really. He just doesn't know how to express it in a way they understand.
