When Bruce was young he believed in promises- specifically from his parents-he believed the simple promises of going out for ice cream or getting a new toy, he believed the promises of his favorite things being given to him as a gift for his birthday or as a reward for good behavior in school (or just in general). But to be fair, those were promises his parents honestly did keep, something their wealth and status could easily afford, but it didn't mean their desire to get him those things was made any less special cause of that reason.
