"how lucky are we? it's been a hell of a week but we're all grown now. there's smoke seepin out of the bar down the street but we're home somehow."

lily had known on that god foresaken day that the tornado was no joke. she knew that if something were to go wrong, it would happen to her of all people so it was no suprise that what they thought would be the coolest experience of their lives would soon turn into the worst. after all the lost lives of not only her friends, but of the close towns to the tragedy, she left oklahoma with a heavy heart and no hopes of returning.

she moved to l.a. and pursued a career in singing, completely throwing her dreams of getting to the top of the publishing industry into the trash. that was what she wanted when she had so much love and support. when she had a tight knit group of friends but with only two of them left, she couldn't bear to have any reminder of her old life. she even almost cut off her brother, javier, completely. he was a harsh reminder of everything she had lost and it broke her heart to not be with him together in a town they both had loved. but her love had soon diminished the second her best friends died.

she's now just a shell of who she used to be, but she was happy in her own fucked up way. so what happens when she feels the pull of oklahoma beckoning her home? her brother needs her and she could never deny him.

if you had told her she'd succeed in stopping a tornado from killing anyone else she loved she would have said "screw you" and walked away in a cloud of self fury.

if you had also told her she'd fall in love with a cowboy she would've wanted every detail you could give her. i mean, who wouldn't want to fall in love with a southern heartthrob?

"i lost my mind on the streets of the city and maybe i lost all hope too. took 28 years of blood pumping through me to get to this evening with you."

"If you asked me three months ago what heartbreak was, I would tell you it's losing somebody close to you due to unspeakable circumstances. But right now, in this moment, I would say it's you. I would say it's the feeling I got in my chest when I realized I was out of time. When I stood in the rain and yelled for you to stay, but all I saw was your back. I would say heartbreak is lying in bed at two in the morning, watching my ceiling fan go around and around, wondering why you couldn't stop to listen. Two seconds. All I needed was two seconds to say the words. All I needed was to seconds for me to tell you I was in love with you. With everything about you. With the way you move, and the feeling of your arms around me. With the feeling of your chest vibrating as you laugh. Heartbreak is falling in love with everything about you, but having the words permanently stuck in my throat." _____ Gracelyn Levinsky grew up with Daniel Grey. Once, long ago, Zahra Howard liked to consider herself fearless. Whether it was a car going faster than humanly possible, illegally racing down the rural roads of Oklahoma, or even chasing its tornadoes. She never seemed to fear anything. Until she did... And after that, she promised she'd never go back. She promised she'd never get that close again. Until, five years later, while she's busy sticking to that promise with determination, the past comes knocking on her door, asking for a favor. She could say no. It would be easy to say no. But the thing about her was once she cared; it was hard to let go. Even if she tried. And somehow, that made saying no harder than the alternative. Which is how she broke her own promise. How she ended up back here in Oklahoma, and right during an unprecedented tornado outbreak ravaging the place she'd once called home. ----- Twisters (2024) Twist in the Tale Series - Standalone Tyler Owens x OC
