I'd never even dreamed of being married when I was a child. I didn't have to. With promises of peace and an elder sister first in line for any arrangements, I was just supposed to be what I was; a child princess to be kept close to her doting mother.
But no one had foreseen the sudden rise of a rebel power, a man with an unfathomable number of followers seeking to overthrow the empires and claim each of the crowns for himself. My fingers slid down his frangible ribs, subconsciously counting each one. I stared upon his scrawny figure. My hatred had quickly turned into guilt and embarrassment.
