A high school couple's relationship falls apart as the boy's mental illness surfaces, leading to missing and dead animals. After they break up, the girl's friends start disappearing, and she eventually discovers he's the killer. She reports him, and he's jailed for life.

The girl, now pregnant, moves to a safer town without telling him. The boy escapes jail after six months, believing they're still together and planning to reunite. He relocates under a fake identity, visiting her old house each Halloween, but finds it empty.

Meanwhile, the girl raises her son alone, unaware of his escape, and begins to trust a new neighbor.
