Caelan, a songsmith in the magical city of Celestria, uncovers a dark secret about The Faithful, the religious group protecting the city. When his best friend Nikos worries about his sister Seraphina's strange behavior after joining The Faithful, Caelan investigates. In the library, he discovers a rune in their initiation spell that could endanger a person's soul.
Meanwhile, Caelan meets Cynric, the son of Celestria's High Priestess. Cynric, yearning for freedom from his sheltered life, forms a deep bond with Caelan. As Caelan digs deeper, he finds evidence that The Faithful have manipulated historical records, erasing nearly a century of Celestria's past. He also learns more about the true nature of their magic and witnesses how The Faithful use force to silence dissent, turning protests into riots.
To fight against The Faithful's abuse of power, Caelan seeks support from those he trusts: Nikos, his former love Maverick, and his father, Professor Tavian. With Cynric's help, they uncover the truth about The Faithful's magic and must decide how far they are willing to go to protect Celestria and its people.
