Sa isang malayong baryo, nakatira si Ligaya. Laking probinsya ang batang inampon dahil sa kabaitan ng mga tao sa kanilang baryo. Hindi nila alam ang pinanggalingan ng dalaga ngunit dahil sa nasa murang edad lamang ito ng makita nila ang batang babae, sila na ang bumuhay sa kanya. Makalipas ang ilang taon ay nagdalaga na si Ligaya at kaya iyan ang kanyang inampong pangalan dahil siya ang nagbibigay ligaya sa kanilang baryo at dahil din sa pagiging bungisngis nito simula noong maliit palang ito.

Sa kabilang dako naman ay may binatang laki sa mayamang pamilya sa syudad na nagngangalang Aurelio o "Leo" kung siya'y tawagin. Isa din siyang ampon ng mga Foster o ang kanyang pamilya ngayon dahil sa parehong sitwasyon ni Ligaya. Ngunit nang siya'y magbinata ay nananaginip na siya tungkol sa isang batang lagi niya raw kasama at para bang pinoprotektahan niya ito. Dahil sa kanyang panaginip ay kinain siya ng kanyang kuryosidad at sinubukang hanapin ang batang babae.
