In a village that worships the god of death, monthly sacrifices are required to prevent plague. Norkane, a poor miner, befriends a seemingly kind individual who gains her trust and affection. This friend, however, is secretly part of a plot to sacrifice her. After deceiving Norkane with frequent meetings and affection, the friend drugs her tea and sacrifices her by throwing her into a ocean of lava. Revived by a ghast's tear, Norkane is transformed into a ghast and finds a new community and friends in her afterlife.
