Jaz, a mutant who can conjure the dead, was born a prodigy in a world without mutants. She spends twelve years building a new life and honing her skills, eventually joining the prestigious Esoterics program at Xavier University.

At 24, her final test before graduation is a rescue mission: she must travel back in time to her hostile homeworld to save a mutant boy and bring him to the world of mutants. The Avengers, misunderstanding her intentions, aim to stop her with the CIA's help.
