Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery is a neurosurgical procedure used to treat various neurological disorders by implanting a device that sends electrical impulses to specific areas of the brain. This treatment is particularly beneficial for conditions like Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, and dystonia when other therapies have not provided sufficient relief. During the procedure, a surgeon implants electrodes into targeted regions of the brain. These electrodes are connected to a pulse generator, typically placed under the skin in the chest area. The pulse generator sends electrical impulses through the electrodes to regulate abnormal brain activity, which helps reduce symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and involuntary movements.
