In the year 2215, Aralynn Drake is a Level 2 that is verbally and physically abused almost daily because of her level-status.
Since they've just turned 18, she and her twin brother, Ashton, have to take the test that will determine the rest of their lives. During the Exam, they realize something: they're not like all of the other testers. There's something more to them that no one else can understand or explain.
As she endures the 2-week long exam, she sees that maybe the world's perfect Level System isn't so perfect after all. Lex will discover that she's involuntarily part of a much bigger plan: to take down the Level System. She never chose any of this, but when did she ever have a choice?
She, her brother, and her new group of friends must agree to fight to make the world a better place. They know that they could all be happy in the end... if they make it out alive.

Mikayla is very unique, and like Jay, she doesn't seem to fit in with her contemporaries. Instead, the two of them keep each other company, and their friendship very quickly escalates into a romantic and intimate relationship. Despite having Mikayla, Jay's troubles continue to burden him. He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.Complete
