Grace Flourish, daughter of Ero and Helene Flourish, owners of Flourish and Blotts, wants to be a great witch, one that makes a difference in the world. The only problem is that she is exceptionally average, maybe even below average. Entering her first year, with the support from her long time friend Cedric Diggory and her new found friends the Weasley twins she is discovering alternative forms of magic derived from potion making and muggle magic. Although her Cedric and the twins are great for her, they're not so great together. The rivalry between Cedric and the twins leaves Grace in the center making her constantly feel pressured to choose sides. She struggles all year between following the safe path her family has paved for her, and creating one for herself, that may lead to better things but it is a far more uncertain path.
