On April 6, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred at Martini Bar in CityPlace Doral, resulting in the deaths of Jamal Wayne Wood, 37, and security guard George Alejandro Castellanos, 23. The incident started with a fight and escalated when Wood began shooting indiscriminately, also injuring an officer and several patrons. This event has led to legal actions, including lawsuits from two Doral police officers and other survivors, alleging negligent security at the bar. Despite the controversy, Martini Bar reopened nearly two weeks later, prompting further public scrutiny and demands for stricter security measures.
