"Unlucky us..." Astraea sighed as she looked up at the endless downpour, her hair plastered to her forehead.

Astraea and Walker had snuck out of their homes that night. Now, standing beneath the dim glow of a streetlight, they were drenched through, the rain falling heavily and without respite.

Walker, equally soaked but still grinning, shrugged. "I guess you could say star crossed us." He chuckled, his eyes twinkling with mischief, but his attempt at humor only earned him a sharp glare from Astraea.

She didn't understand how he could find humor in their situation, soaked through and miles from home with no immediate solution in sight. But then again, he was Walker Scobell. He found amusement in everything, even in their soggy misfortune. Despite her irritation, she couldn't help but admire his ability to laugh in the face of suffering, a trait that both annoyed and fascinated her.
