On the night of Thursday, March 21, 2024, the University of Richmond community was struck by tragedy as sophomore Christopher Elvin drowned in Westhampton Lake. Elvin, a business administration and Chinese studies major, was discovered by authorities after an immediate response from Richmond police and fire departments. Despite swift efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Richmond student death has deeply impacted the university, with students and faculty mourning the loss of a cherished classmate and friend. A vigil was held in his memory, highlighting the profound sorrow felt across the campus community.
