Ty rushes to his friend's side after he loses his husband of 16 years, afraid he might have done something awful. 
He finds him alive but drained and unwell. 
So, he asks to hear their story.
As his old friend reminisces on the war, the hatred, and the bloodshed that brought them together, Ty does everything in his power to keep him in the safest mindset - all while battling some crazy protestors who believe the husband of the "traitor" must be "punished."
