Years before helping the Brotherhood in the Capital Wasteland, the Mojave, and the Commonwealth, Artemis, then known as S9-43 was a Courser loyal to the Institute. However Courser's are chosen, not immediately created. What she at first deems a blessing due to her curiosity of the surface soon proves to be hard labor bringing back escaped scientists and synths as well as kidnapping those who were just trying to live their lives.
As time goes on S9 becomes disgruntled with her work with the only person she can confide in being her fellow synth J6-27. Eventually though, while out on a mission, things go south and S9 must make a decision. The Institute? Or those that wish to live free.
