Sela Eagleshield has always been drawn to the sea.
Despite her mother's stories of spiteful monsters luring people from their village to their untimely deaths, and the rocky waves that meet the shoreline, she still finds herself drawn to the water. But one day, while visiting the sea, she stumbles across an injured creature with the tail of a fish and the chest of a man. Immediately, she takes him back to her village and brings him back to health.
Sela and the prince of the ocean, Kael, find intrigue in each other's worlds, and teach each other the ways of the land and the ocean. The longer they spend together, the deeper their feelings grow for one another, and the more complicated their lives become. For neither of them belong in the other's world.
And to top it all off, a storm is coming. A storm neither the people of the land nor the people of the sea are ready to face with an oncoming threat looming over their heads. Together, Sela and Kael must find a way to get their people to work together to face those who seek to destroy their ways of life.
Will Sela and Kael find a way to be together? Will they pick a world they both feel they equally belong to? And above all, will they succeed in fighting off the threat coming for all of them?

Originally written in 2020; newly edited in 2024. In the mermaid society of the Maji, human life is sacrificed to evolve into the powerful, winged state of Hewa. Those that do not advance are banished from society and left to fend for themselves in the great oceans...so it is either kill or be killed. Nia's life is torn between the Maji and the humans who took her in when her own family went missing. Seen as a failure in the Maji world, she is determined to find a way to become human herself and lead a new life with her friend and her love. But when the mythical gift of the Siren's Kiss awakens in her, both worlds are turned upside down. Nia's newfound power has the ability to save either the human world she covets or the mermaid world she despises. Whichever she chooses to save will destroy the other.
