Fate is a game that many people are playing. They set events off, like a line of dominoes, hoping the fall leads to their desired outcome. But this is not a story about the players, not really. It's about the pieces in the game.

The world is brimming with tension, mystery and adventure. Terrible and beautiful, and a threat to everything that is not human. In the midst of it, several children set out to see what their place is in the world. Some are running away, some are searching. One is a catalyst, a tipping point in the fate game that could send everything else cascading towards an unknown path.

Mi'hito and Alqui'a are twins in a land where such a thing is unnatural. Born into a line of people who carry a terrible curse, it is expected that they will bear the curse as well. The only way to stop it is to swear an oath that binds their souls. Alqui'a's curse is one of the strongest ever seen, but Mi'hito shows no signs of a curse at all... and she is not prepared to give up her freedom to those who would control her. 

Reia Caution has lived her whole life in a village hidden from the world. She has a secret, one that has hurt her in the past, and one that she has been told to guard with her life. But she is reckless, and when it comes down to it, she will do anything for those she cares about. 

So when Mi'hito runs away and ends up in Reia's village, being closely pursued by her brother who wants to drag her back home, Reia decides to help. From that point on, all of their lives take an unexpected turn as they are thrown into the unknown.

The story revolves around Ava and her kingdom's plight of despair, as her father is under a curse and she is the acting queen. Before her 25th birthday, she tries to break the curse her father is under, all while she seeks peace with a neighboring kingdom that they have been at odds with. Turns out, he's hotter than she imagined and is ready to please. Does he hide darkness under that smile? Or is the darkness closer to home she sould be weary of? Ava is talented, beyond what normal people attain, and the kingdom supposes she will be the next Goddess. Her nack for spells and enchantments are unmatched, her work with a whip or bow has left her enemies dead on the battlefield. She has proven herself to be the best. Magic is her friend, they say. Ava has not wanted a man, has been content with her books, her studies, her adventures to kill anything that threatens her kingdom.
