Fate is a game that many people are playing. They set events off, like a line of dominoes, hoping the fall leads to their desired outcome. But this is not a story about the players, not really. It's about the pieces in the game.

The world is brimming with tension, mystery and adventure. Terrible and beautiful, and a threat to everything that is not human. In the midst of it, several children set out to see what their place is in the world. Some are running away, some are searching. One is a catalyst, a tipping point in the fate game that could send everything else cascading towards an unknown path.

---

Mi'hito and Alqui'a are twins in a land where such a thing is unnatural. Born into a line of people who carry a terrible curse, it is expected that they will bear the curse as well. The only way to stop it is to swear an oath that binds their souls. Alqui'a's curse is one of the strongest ever seen, but Mi'hito shows no signs of a curse at all... and she is not prepared to give up her freedom to those who would control her.

Reia Caution has lived her whole life in a village hidden from the world. She has a secret, one that has hurt her in the past, and one that she has been told to guard with her life. But she is reckless, and when it comes down to it, she will do anything for those she cares about.

So when Mi'hito runs away and ends up in Reia's village, being closely pursued by her brother who wants to drag her back home, Reia decides to help. From that point on, all of their lives take an unexpected turn as they are thrown into the unknown.

It's been five years since Kai's life was completely turned upside down, but he is extremely grateful for the things that have happened. The deaths not included, things have changed for the better. Kai feels that if those men and Thorn hadn't showed up at his home, Abby wouldn't be his girlfriend, Chase wouldn't be his best friend, Shintaro wouldn't be an amazing "therapist" (as Chase calls it) to Kai, Linda wouldn't be like a mother to him, Gabriel wouldn't be the funny-in-his-own-antisocial-way friend (he had his own home in the town, so he often visited), and Kai wouldn't be as close to his father has he is now. Kai is actually enjoying his new life in this strange town. The village is "ruled" by a young woman named Ruby, and everyone there adores her for being such a great leader. Kai has only met her once or twice, but she seems very nice. But there is something prickling at the back of Kai's mind, and it unsettles him greatly. Ever since Moon vanished after killing Luke, she hasn't been spotted anywhere. Kai often wonders if she is somewhere far from where they are now, planning her next attack. When a series of strange events start happening around the town, Kai is certain that Moon is back and playing her game with them. In a way, he is right. But there are many things that he is also wrong about. During the midst of it all, Shintaro gets captured, sending Kai down a path of despair and hopelessness. He feels responsible for getting Shintaro back, but he doesn't know what he's up against. Thankfully, his friends don't let him do it by himself. As always, they have his back. And soon, new friends are there behind him, too. The group finds that Moon is behind all of this, but she isn't doing it for herself. She has Shintaro for a certain reason, and the friends are soon to find out what is at stake. The lives of others, including loved ones.

You might think it resembles some dark sandbox RPG games, but it doesn't work that way. In the aftermath of a prophecy foretelling Earth's destruction, billions of people vanished from around the globe, transported to a planet called Eldrasia, a world the same size as Jupiter. People were scattered all across its vast expanse. The questions surrounding what happened to Earth and why they were transported remain unanswered; no one knows the cause of this phenomenon, and its mysteries elude understanding. Here, the full potential of one's being is unlocked; magic and super strength are possible, but abilities aren't granted automatically. Individuals must work hard to achieve and discover their hidden talents and skills, seeking knowledge in dangerous areas to fully understand and unlock their potential to survive and rebuild humanity. In this new world, there are no guides to lead the way. Everyone must rely solely on their instincts and determination to navigate deadly environments, unknown territories, mysterious civilizations, and ancient ruins. Eldrasia is a world within a world, filled with treacherous dungeons that contain traps and monsters eager to prey on the unprepared. Unlike anything found in games, these dungeons offer no easy loot; they test the limits of strength and resolve. Towering structures rise with thousands of floors that anyone can challenge, offering unique abilities, rare equipment, and unknown materials. However, reaching the top floor is shrouded in mystery, with rumors suggesting that Demons and Gods of this world reside there. This world isn't designed to be easy; it's a nightmare where every decision could mean the difference between life and death. --- 09/15/2024 - Present

15 parts Complete

[Entry for the 2021 Open Novella Contest with prompts 1 and 20!] "Truth is, there are no innocent people in this world. Never has been, never will be." Jude was born on the day when Alucinatio, the Star of Blood, lit up the night sky. Following the prophecy of the star, he was raised to become the great saviour of the sorcerer kingdom Mendax. And Jude became exactly that, honing his magical powers and challenging the reign of the Empire of Dorobo like a mere walk in the park. Despite having this popularity and praise, though, the empty Jude still desires something more than fighting the same enemies and saving the same people every damned time. And then everything changes after meeting Prema, a young lady of the Hantri tribe. Upon getting to know her, Jude becomes conflicted; Prema is nothing like the savages in the stories he's been told. In fact, Jude starts losing the ability to hold on to his beliefs. Should he trust his friends and family? Should he listen to his enemies? Through magical scuffles and internal struggles, Jude strives to figure out who he's truly meant to be, who the "good guys" of this world are. With rising tension between civilizations, however, such a task is way harder than it sounds. But then he learns the truth. The truth about the kingdom, the empire, and the tribe. The truth about magic in this nation. The truth about people.
