Phoebe Winters is a socially awkward young woman struggling to find her place in the world. Despite her impressive tech skills, she failed to land her dream job, and her confidence is at an all-time low. To escape this, she immerses herself in virtual reality.

Pearl is Phoebe's online character, a confident and skilled gamer within her headset, quickly becoming a regular in the platform's most popular realms. There, she meets Kai, a mysterious and charismatic user who quickly becomes her closest friend.

One day, an unexpected opportunity arises. ImmersiTech, the company behind the VR platform, announces a high-stakes competition held at headquarters that selects contestants based on their level in-game. The contest offers a once-in-a-lifetime prize, a massive cash reward, and a coveted job at ImmersiTech, where the winners will help shape the future of virtual reality.

While they work to get their levels up, Kai avoids the idea of them meeting for the contest. What is Kai hiding? Will Phoebe get into the contest and meet her one and only best friend? Who is he really?
