"the stars look so beautiful" i admire.
"yeah, they are" i hear delilah mutter but as i turn my face to hers, she isn't looking at the millions of glittering fires that are illuminating the sky.
she's looking at me.

she lifts her hand and tucks my hair behind my ears.
i can hear my heart beat drumming in my chest. the rustling off grass from the wind has silenced and everything around me blurs except from her face which has me spelled. i can't look away.
when i look at her, i don't hear fireworks. my eyes don't shape into hearts. i don't feel like there are sparks in my chest.
i feel safe. i feel heard. i feel seen.
in fact, i can't tell you how i feel because the love i have for this girl right now, is indescribable.
i am in love with deliliah brown.
i am in love with a girl i may never be able to have.
