In the 1870s the gunslingers were the keepers of the west, in the east it's the gangsters, and one westerner is about to shake up the east in the only way she knows how: with a little laudanum. When Liv Alarie's father abandons the family she turns to one of few trades open to unmarried women in the 1870s: crime. Slipping innocent little drops of laudanum into sailor's drinks at night, she shanghais them back to sea. Business is good until the day she accidentally shanghais the son of a wealthy and powerful politician nicknamed Baldface Bronson. Now she must find his son or watch as Bronson ruins her financial struggling family. Problem is Liv doesn't even know where to begin; her job is to lose men, not find them. With few options, she begrudgingly accepts the help of Liam Evans -a former gang member- to track the Bronson boy down in New York. But upon finding out that the boy has become involved in one of the city's most dangerous gangs, Liv feels more than a little unsure if she can trust Liam and his shady past. It doesn't help either that Liam is the first man she's looked at since her heart was broken. Desperate to get home and pry her family from Bronson's clutches, Liv's forced to put her trust in Liam. But in an underworld of gangs and guns, can anyone truly be trusted? Perhaps those little drops of laudanum weren't so innocent after all.

" I don't even like you like that." Her face scrunched up in disgust watching water drip from curls in his hair. " 'Cause you love me. Just like I love you." He retorted with a grin, disregarding the deflecting she was doing. --- They were two sides of the same city-until one move split them down the middle. Elijah and London were inseparable once, bonded by childhood summers, beat-up bikes, and secrets too deep for anyone else to know. Unfortunately, when Elijah's mom packed up and moved her family across Onyx to a rival neighborhood, everything changed. She always thought when she spoke to him again he would've changed like her. She was witty, sarcastic, and had a low tolerance, but he was still the same calm , sweet, cute boy with a heart the size of the sun. Some things haven't changed. Some things never change. The pull between them, the memories that still burn etched marks in their brain, and the words they never said out loud. In a world where loyalty can be life or death, and love isn't always enough to cross old lines, Elijah and London find themselves circling each other again. --- STARTED; MAY 26th, 2025 PUBLISHED JUNE 6th, 2025 FINISHED; SEPTEMBER 27th 2025
