16-year-old Tomas Tovis has been a wary boy ever since he suffered a life-changing childhood injury at the hands of his own parents' pokémon.

Years later, he is living with his grandmother and his relatively normal life is turned on its head when he, along with another seven, is handpicked by the Committee after a surprise disaster befalls his village.

It's quite simple, there's only three things he needs to do:

* Avoid trainers like the plague
* Capture the one responsible
* Save the day

Fate has other plans though, and after a tragic twist of events that leaves him feeling betrayed, he plunges himself head-first into the trying life of a trainer, all with one goal in mind:

To become strong enough to turn a hope into reality.

The fate of all Pokemon rests on Skylar, and her pokemon, Absol, Weavile, Houndour, and Taillow. But, of course, she runs into people that she can't just get rid of, the water trainer, Barry, the fighting trainer, Lucas, and the flying trainer, Dawn. How does she cope with having to stay undercover with a bunch of trainers she just met? And how can she keep quiet about the fact she can talk to Pokemon? Well, you have to read it to find out. But of course, the dark forces will seek to snuff out any potential light at the end of the tunnel. Dialga, now gone primal, seeks his own self preservation, even if it includes commanding a Pokémon suffering through grief to do his bidding. Learn of the story of the Pokémon of the future, of the Treecko who would partner with a human to change history, of how friends would turn into enemies and how things played out from their perspective. The plot of this fic is loosely based on the ROM Hack "Special Episode 0: In A Dark Past", with changes to the tone being somewhat less dark and alternative characters in different roles.
