Holly Campbell is your regular fourteen-year-old from Darwin, Australia. She was adopted as a child and is happy with her adoptive parents and brother. A couple of days after her birthday, she receives a letter from two unknown people named Alice and Peter. She throws it out and forgets about it, but the letters soon come flooding in, and she finally opens it. Alice and Peter claim to be her parents, but that can't possibly be; her parents are dead. They died when she was a baby. Unless they really are her parents and she's been lied to all these years? Surely not.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. The three are skaters, good ones, who live for girls and their skateboards. They're also basically good kids who take pride in being different without paying attention to it. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around. Mariah was murdered when she was just 15, her remains were never found, although no one but her and her ghost friend, Crazy Girl, know where their bodies are buried. The house Michael now lives in is the one where she lived with her family, and her old room is now his.
