In a pre-apocalyptic world, few don't have the disease. Global warming was ignored until 2025, when problems began to arise. When the disease began to take affect, people took it at a new flu; nothing dangerous. Except it was. Immune to antibiotics, there seemingly isn't a cure, nor cause. Losing iron causes a lust for blood, and that's exactly what's happening. Though this is a new low for humans.
