Thorn is the second youngest of seven siblings, with five of his older brothers having already moved out for college and work. At home, Thorn, and his younger brother, Solar, are twins Their parents, having grown accustomed to the mature behavior of their older sons, expect Thorn and Solar to follow suit, placing adult responsibilities on them. Solar thrives under this pressure, enjoying the responsibilities his parents entrust to him. He takes pride in acting like an adult and managing tasks that seem beyond his years. Thorn, on the other hand, feels differently. He longs to be pampered and treated like the younger sibling he is, without the burden of acting mature. However, the reality of his situation forces him to play the role of a caring older brother, responsible for his younger sibling, Solar, and helping to maintain the household for his parents. Outside of the home, Thorn adopts a different persona. He becomes a child full of curiosity and wonder, eagerly exploring the world with a sense of naive excitement. To his friends, he appears carefree and innocent, as if he were the youngest in his family, seeking the affection and protection that usually comes with that role. It's his way of fulfilling his desire to be the younger, carefree sibling he wishes he could be at home. Solar, however, doesn't see Thorn's behavior outside the home in a positive light. He finds it disgraceful and embarrassing. To Solar, it seems inappropriate for an older brother, someone three years his senior, to act so childishly. He feels disgusted watching Thorn play the part of a carefree child with their friends. Solar views Thorn as a disgrace to the family-a brother who has no other talents besides gardening, and who lacks any notable achievements. For Solar, Thorn's attempts to reclaim the role of a younger sibling by acting immature are a source of shame, further lowering Thorn's already unimpressive status in his eyes.
