I touched him. I don't know what prompted me to do so but I did. His skin felt wispy and cold even though it looked so human.

I had to remind myself that he wasn't human. Not even close.

"I..."

What could I say? I'm sorry? I wish there was something I could do to help? Are you okay? I knew human sentiments never worked on gods. They thought them so trivial and unimportant. Still, the need to comfort him made me scrounge up whatever thoughts I could scavenge and when they turned up to be useless I sat in defeat.

I peeked up at him and decided that I really was a thing of a waste of space after all. I start to withdraw my hand when he clasps my wrist firmly. Startled, I looked at him and realized after a long moment of confused staring that I didn't need to soothe him with words and meaningless phrases. To him, my presence was enough.
