When Rhys Lilivier is sent out on his first knightly quest to rescue an abducted princess from a tower in the woods, he thinks it'll just be your run-of-the-mill knight business; rescue the pretty girl, get rich, get married, live happily ever after ever. You know, the stuff they write fairytales about.
Instead, he finds "The Villainess", a self-proclaimed evildoer of the kingdom's story, intent on assassination plans, coups, backstabbing, and revenge. Now, Rhys didn't hear a lot about fairytale villains growing up, but he does know that they're not supposed to be this smart, cunning, ruthless... and, well, definitely not straight-up stunning.
But as Rhys reads deeper and deeper into The Villainess's story, he finds it increasingly hard to get back to the life he once knew...

Through the darkness, the computer screen illuminated the pale skin of Adelae's face around the black mask. Scrolling through the submitted questions, she came across one that made her smile. "Dear Lady Shade," She read aloud to herself. "Why did you choose to be a villain instead of a hero?" She chuckled, shaking her head at the simple, loaded question, before selecting it and opening the page to write a reply. "Hello Blogger KittyStan41. I bet you're expecting the classic tragic backstory in response to this question." she typed. " Dead parents, treated like trash as a kid, and it all came to a choice between rising to defeat my inner demons or succumbing to them. Well, my real answer is possibly something you haven't considered about the world of Heroes and Villains. Answer this for me, what is the goal of a hero? To make the world a better place, perhaps? Isn't it said that you should give away what you don't use? After losing my life, I became the Villainess in a novel I didn't even finish. That was alright; I had asked for this second chance, after all. Even if I didn't think my desperate pleas were going to be answered like this, I would not waste this chance. Living with my family was comfortable, but my ambitions were big. Still, the first thing to do was to evade the death flags. For that, I have to evade the Crown Prince at all costs. As a commoner, if he sees me and takes me as a concubine like in the original, it will be very troublesome. But what is this!? Didn't my parents tell you I was sick?
