She could feel the man's eyes piercing through hers. Gwen looked at her from the chair beside her. Her face was pale with worry. Ember knew this wasn't good.

The wings had moved until they curved around them both and shut out a lot of the light. Its face was so near hers that she could feel its breath brushing against her skin. "Please just look at me for a second. Just look. I'm not going to hurt you." One of the hands grabbed her chin and forced her head to turn, and then she was looking straight into a pair of dark brown eyes. It had a human face too. She had been expecting something monstrous or ghastly, and the surprise made her falter for a moment. He looked young, with a bad haircut and an earnest expression on his face. Brianna also seems jumpy as she watches Raphael get up to look at the farthest door where the other passengers came from. Raphael takes a surprised step back as he looks through the small window again. He slowly turns around and his face is pale as he says, "The other part of the subway is gone." "What?!" A tall man says with wide eyes. "No! That's impossible! We just came from there!" The rest of them nervously look around as Ben gets up to look through the window of the conductor's room. Michelle gets up to see what Raphael keeps seeing and Brianna lets out a nervous pant. "There's no conductor." I stand at this and my blood falls to my feet. Frantic looks go around the place and nervous voices fill our ears along with the scrapping sound of the subway. I turn around to look at the other passengers and my eyes catch the red lights from the moving letters on one part of the roof. I gulp and sweat starts down my neck as I read its bright letters.
