Away from the ever-growing cities and kingdoms that dominate Pyrrhia, Bonecatcher, daughter of a MudWing and NightWing, has lived in only the fewest corners of the world. All her life she, along with a notorious group of gypsies, has maintained to a strict route of where she can and can't go, following the beaten path in an endless quest to avoid society- as is the life of the gypsies, who's reputation proceeds them. Bonecatcher isn't unhappy there; it is all that she knows. She would have peacefully thrown bones and read the futures of strangers for the rest of her very contained life.

Yet, as she ages, the threat of marriage looms. Bonecatcher will do whatever it takes to rid herself of the ball-and-chain proposal... and when a chance to attend a school for the unfit and unbecoming presents itself in the form of a customer, Bonecatcher is quick to take it. Yet out of the talons of one boy, she falls into another. A boy which she dreams of, a boy she's seen once, a boy that has haunted her for life... he appears, and throws Bonecatcher in a whirlwind.

And all the while, a SkyWing's dangerous discovery - one so prolific that her name will be known forever more - threatens to cleave Pyrrhia in two, creating a destructive chaos that may thwart the dragon world into ruin.
