Leo has never been the person to be noticed by anyone. Lets face it, he's an unpopular teenager with hormones. He can't pull anyone. He hasn't even told anyone he's gay yet.
So when he developed a crush for a kid named aithan in 8th grade, it all went down from there. He was in love. But aithan never loved him back because well, they never really became friends.
So Leo was a hopeless romantic. Until 9th grade hit. During a day in history, Mr Soto assigned partners, and guess who became history partners?
