"You've seen them?" The newcomer wailed, her eyes darting back and forth frantically.
The leader of the group stepped forward, his face dimly lit by the single bulb in the room. "We've all seen them." He gestured to the motley mix of people around him.
A sob of relief tore through the trembling girl's chest as she threw herself into the leader's arms; he fumbled to catch her.
"What are they?" She cried.
"We don't know."
The girl looked up, her desperate gaze locking onto his pained one and she whispered, "How do we stop them?"
A shudder coursed through the leader's body as he remembered what had happened to him when he'd tried to intervene with the Fittest's actions.
His eyes watered profusely and he lowered his head, stricken with grief and shame.
"The answer's simple," he replied in an even quieter voice. "We don't."

I'll add a better description later. I'm too tired right now. XD

REVISED EDITION COMING OUT MONTHLY/COMPLETED In a world overrun by zombies, A single bite heralds doom - except for Kaindra, who defies death itself, being undead already. ******** As humanity struggles to adapt to the new reality of zombies-infested streets and lurking supernatural creatures from ancient myths and legends, survival becomes an ever-evolving challenge. Survival is a constant battle not only against the undead but also against supernatural creatures and their zealous followers. The relentless onslaught of zombies and the mysterious reemergence of mythical beings push society to its limits. Civilization's last bastions fall one by one, teetering on the brink of collapse. As these ancient myths awaken, they reveal intentions that are far from clear- some may hold the key to salvation, while others could herald further doom. The question remains: Can humanity unravel the mysteries of these legendary beings in time to save themselves, or will they fall prey to the very legends they once dismissed? ___ Excerpt: My eyes catch the strange shimmer that had been haunting my vision all day. Taking a deep breath, I lean closer to the mirror, my skin prickling. I thought it was a trick of the light, but as I stare at my reflection, my fragile lies crumble away. My eyes, once a deep, dark brown, had transformed into something otherworldly. They now gleamed like twin moons, radiant and enigmatic. The silver hue swirling within them, reflecting the dim light like the surface of a still, moonlit lake. The orbs seemed to hold a universe within, depths of endless mysteries and ancient wisdom beyond my grasp. ___ Warning: Mentions of suicide and self-harm Beautiful cover made by @scmimi.
