Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes, and in this world we live in now....
No hero in reality has super powers.
But... Sometimes we forget that there's a line between what's real and what's out of a comic book. We start getting bolder, try to do the impossible. And when blinded by revenge... We loose something along the way.

Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? I just kind of want to get through high school. Then we'll talk about this 'superhero' business." Max Owens is your average high school sophomore. Well, he tries to be, at least. At fifteen, he's got more important things to do than fight the infamous Vinicus Cauldwell. With his single mother having recently lost her job, Max is determined to help his family get back up on its feet. The publicity and pressure that comes with being a superhero would be too much to handle right now. But it's hard to fly under the radar, when you can literally fly. Meanwhile, Vinicus Cauldwell enjoys the power he has as Murkbourne's most feared super-villain. For once, he can sit back and relax without being pestered by the police. That is, until Max arrives. Vinicus isn't happy about having to fight a child, but he can't let Max find out. After all, super-villains can't be "good people"... Can they? We can't all be born heroes. Heroes used to keep us safe in the face of villainous crimes, they used to be the greatest line of defense we could count on, but as suddenly as they appeared they vanished. The tales of the teenager, Maximillian Hunter, as he traverses through high school and battles evil villains, his teen angst, and himself. This original story draws inspiration from my childhood and teenage experiences. It also draws inspiration from media I'd enjoyed when I was younger. This is Chapter 1. The Beginning. On his first day in his new school, fifteen year old Maximillian Hunter finds out that he's not as alone as he'd earlier thought. However, darkness lurks in every corner. *** Maximillian Hunter, the son of the famous ex-actress Julianne Hunter, has a simple problem. High school. The problem being that this teenage boy, for varying reasons, just can't seem to stay put in one school. A part of the reason being that fitting in is not a thing that Maximillian Hunter has ever been good at. After all, there is nothing quite like Maximillian Hunter. However, contrary to what he'd earlier believed, he finds himself making friends who actually seem to like him. And even more contrary to what he believed, he realizes he's not the only abnormal one in Hypercity High. Except that .... .... there are more abnormal things going on in Hypercity. A lot more. Emerson Rogers liked to think of himself as an ordinary teenager. After all, he had no reason to believe otherwise. He went to an upstanding private school with the rest of his friends, was a straight-A student, had no disciplinary issues, and was well-liked according to his classmates and teachers. If anyone were to take a glance at him, they would assume that he was just another carefree rich kid with no problems in his life to worry about. Unless you consider the fact that his evening plans included putting on a blue super suit and speeding through the streets as a crime-fighting superhero. Okay, so maybe his life wasn't as ordinary and carefree as he liked to portray it. With Emerson starting his senior year of high school, things have started to become a bit more tricky than he would've preferred. Defending Jefferson City and maintaining a normal school life as a cover can be hard, but throw in his best friend getting closer to the truth about his alter-ego's identity and a mysterious villain working from the shadows who always seems to be two steps ahead, living a double life is going to be his biggest challenge yet. Especially when new villains start crawling out of the woodwork, thirsty for a fight, and his old villains return stronger, angrier, and looking to settle a score. As Emerson starts to uncover the truth behind where all these villains are coming from, he finds that not everything is what it seems on the surface. And that he and this mysterious villain have a stronger connection than he originally thought.

what is wrong with the world? the times have changed and left so much behind that there is no room for those abandoned, those lost in the ways of the old world and left to fend for themselves in the new one. those few strays, those lost souls are outliers, people without a place in the new world, where superpowers have been outlawed by those to strong for even the most capable to defeat. the outliers of this world need to unit, they need to fight to reclaim what was lost, to reclaim what was taken by the hypocritical system they once dedicated there lives to. this story will introduce us to those who call themselves outliers, those who live in the shadows hiding what they are capable of from the world that once demanded them to defend it, the ones left behind by the new world order but are still very much capable of fighting against it.Complete
