As they say, trees are at the very base of all life on Earth. The roots, the leaves, the trunk, the fruits and flowers, the entire package. But being born from one is a rather different tale to share. And a unique one, to be sure.
Silver Aspen has a story as such to tell. As the daughter of a silver aspen, her life has been about as exciting as watching pigeons frolic in puddles and staring at human pups as they scream and bolt around endlessly. She wasn't complaining, though. As a fox, her life was mainly of peace. Sometimes, a little peace was nice.
But though a tree may thrive and live for hundreds of years, cold autumns and scorching summers are a cruel jest to their kind. At the moment, Aspen feels as if she were at the very depths of the darkest winter, as the trees she had loved but took for granted started to crumble and fade.
A song of tradition and grace was broken, four souls shattered and never to return, a foe sworn to be friend brings tentative truths and lies, ten strangers who glow with familiarity vanish silently from the world, crafts that no one dares venture towards with even thought, two humans who seem to understand...
Aspen wasn't usually sure of much, but she knew...
As a tree's life, peace wasn't going to last forever.

Hello! This is a story I wrote in the fifth grade. Through the years, my writing style has changed, as evident from my other works, but this was my proudest piece just a few years ago.
