"Giyuu-sama!" Aoi's voice broke through the tension, filled with relief as she hurried to Kanao's side, carefully cradling her. "The sun is almost up! We just need to...to..." Her words caught in her throat, her breath hitching as she looked up at Giyuu.
He turned to face her, and what she saw made her blood run cold.
Giyuu's eyes-once deep, round pools of blue that looked like a calm ocean-were now sharp, vertical slits, glowing with an unnatural light.
Aoi's heart pounded in her chest, the realization crashing over her like a wave. The man who had fought so valiantly to protect them, who had refused to give in even when the odds were against him... was now one of them.
"No..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "It can't be..."
But the truth was undeniable. Giyuu was no longer human.
He was a demon.

The river behind Mount Fujikasane ran black at night. You and Giyu sat on the stones after Final Selection, bandages crisp, lungs raw from six days of not dying. The wisteria swayed above like small, purple constellations. Your hands cupped a battered paper lantern you'd found in a shed, its flame trembling. "Why keep it?" Giyu asked, voice low enough to be mistaken for wind. "Because it's small," you said, lighting the wick with a sliver of your palm's glow. "And still refuses the dark." He watched the light steady and did not look away. Back then, you did not understand why the quiet around him made you brave. "We made it," you whispered. He tipped the lantern so the river took your reflection and tore it to lace. "We did." You went down the mountain with a friend you would later lose, with a boy who would become a man made of water and silence, and with the soft, sudden understanding that your power wasn't only blinding, it could be gentle enough to cradle a flame.

Giyuu Tomioka never escaped from the clutches of insanity. Being dragged away by relatives of his that were doctors all because he insisted that his sister was slaughtered by demons, it was the truth, but over time as these doctors started to chip away at his mind he was left unsure of any reason demons would exist in a world. These doctors always tormented Giyuu even in his sleep to the point he became an emotionless being. Until he was saved by a woman. For the first time in years Giyuu actually felt something and instead of working on the opposing side of demons, he found himself working for a demon, she was kind and quiet, and almost emotionless in a way, she treated Giyuu like a normal human being but then she was recruited to help people who slayed demons, since she couldn't work in the sunlight, Giyuu was often sent in her stead when test were being ran during the day, there he met some people who were interesting, people's lives that were damaged by demons but they never seemed emotionless like him, it confused him made him wonder if he was always supposed to be like this, if there was a way he could have been different. As he wonders into his thoughts, he runs into someone, someone who looked severely damaged by the hands of demons on the outside but on the inside he seemed put together but a little degraded, he seemed to be intrigued by Giyuu and Giyuu wouldn't admit but he intrigued him. So Giyuu found himself being followed by this person and constantly annoyed by him that for the first time in years he felt emotions.Complete
