Derek walked with his pack into the Stilinski house; they were trying to figure out where Stiles was. As the Sheriff was showing them all of Stiles' belongings, they came across a chessboard where their names were on the pieces. "Why is my name on the king?" Derek asked the Sheriff. "I don't know. He used this board to explain to me what all of you are," the Sheriff replied.
That made Derek wonder why Stiles had placed him on the king.

Stiles "accidentally" bumped into the most popular girl in school, which really meant he wanted her to notice him and his gayness, just so they could become best friends. Stiles "accidentally" made it clear to all of the openly gay boys in school that he was available, which really meant he wanted this whole gay thing to seem real, so Lydia HAD to believe him. Stiles "accidentally" told Derek Hale he'd go to the winter dance with him, which really meant he wanted Lydia to see them together and believe this whole scheme. Still, as tensions were rising about them losing their territory he couldn't bother them with something he didn't even fully understand. Maybe he just needed something fun and easy to help him relax. Derek can't sleep, and if he cleans his house enough maybe people won't realize how he doesn't care enough to clean up other parts of his life.
