The year is 2001, when being gay isn't really normally accepted, and the day 9/11 changed everything.

Jess Mariano, son and firstborn of famous billionaire-couple actor/director Antonio Mariano and supermodel/actress Liz Danes, is a troubled teenager who usually gets into trouble. As a result, Antonio sends him away to live with his uncle Luke Danes in Stars Hollow.

Dean Forester is forced to live with his abusive stepfather and take care of his younger sisters while battling an eating disorder and self-harm at the same time and dealing with being bullied at school for being gay.

As the boys meet, their relationship grows. What also else grows are the issues about sexuality and mental health of them. As the relationship gains more attention, the boys will have to survive being gay in a small town.

He became so depressed that he stopped eating all together. One day he looked in the mirror and realized that he was losing weight. He stopped getting bullied but still continued not to eat unable to shake the disease. He soon became hospitalized and started to eat again but after he got rejected by multiple collages his self esteem went down and he stopped eating. These series dealt with gay rights and social issues featuring storylines concerning homophobia, HIV & AIDS, Proposition 14 (USA version), violence/gay bashing, coming out, drug use, gay marriage & parental rights amongst others. The original UK series was set in Manchester, the US version in Pittsburg, I have set this version in Sydney at the same time (Early 90's) and have kept the original music that was first used in the UK version and re-used in the US version. I've renamed the characters (obviously) and also place names etc to suit the change in city. I've also added in some Australian-ness to suit the location. If you haven't seen the TV series, the UK version was ground breaking for it's time, nothing like it had been seen before and it sent controversial waves rippling which Showtime picked up on. They re-made it for a US audience, using nearly the exact same script before carrying it on and expanding it into 5 series. I highly recommend you watch if you can! Rights belong to Showtime and Cowlip.
