Katherine finally admitted why she didn't kill Ellie or Elena that they were in danger. Ellie is later kidnapped by a masked individual and held hostage by vampires. Rose admitted that she or her sister needed to be sacrificed to break the sun and moon curse. Stefan rescued Ellie. Klaus, one of the Original vampires, arrived and is now hunting Elena and Ellie, but Ellie makes a deal with Klaus's brother, Elijah, to protect her loved ones. Uncle John returns to Mystic Falls, and this comes as an unpleasant surprise to Elena, Ellie, Damon, Jenna, and Alaric. John reveals to Damon that the only way to kill an Original is with a dagger dipped in white ash. Ellie finds out that if a vampire uses the dagger, that vampire will die.
