"I can't make sense of it."
"Why can't you ?" he says, still holding my hand, his face just an inch away from mine, so close that I can hear him breathing.
Then suddenly it vanishes. That thing in his eyes, that I couldn't make sense of. Like it was never there. His grip loosens as he sighs, his eyelids droop a little. And for some strange reason, it scares me.
He smiles, wearily, but he does, "That's okay Kiya. It always has been. Let's go."
I stare at him for a second, "Your eyes."
"What about them ?" he says, as if nothing happened.
"Nothing." I smile back, wearily, but I do.
And he walks me home just like he normally does. He smiles just like he normally does, talks like he normally does.
But his eyes...when he looks at me...
His eyes don't reflect mine anymore.
