The sun was a dim, cold light that barely touched the barren landscape. 200 trudged through the wasteland, each step a monumental effort. His body was weakened, not just from the endless journey, but from the relentless experiments that had stolen his strength, his memories, and perhaps even his soul. The world around him was a blur of grays and browns, devoid of life and color, as empty as the void inside him. Beside him, 300 moved with a determined, almost feral energy, his eyes scanning the horizon for threats that 200 could no longer perceive. 300 was always there, just a step ahead or beside him, a silent sentinel guarding him against dangers seen and unseen. The man was a paradox-a harsh, bitter protector, whose very presence was both a comfort and a reminder of all that 200 had lost. 200 couldn't remember much from before the escape, but there were flashes-dark, painful fragments that made his heart race and his head pound. The memories were hazy, elusive, like shadows at the edge of his vision. Yet, they were enough to know that the man beside him had once been the source of those shadows. 300 had hurt him. The knowledge was there, buried deep in his mind, but it was muddled, confused by the trauma of their time in the camp. 200 knew that 300 had been cruel, had inflicted pain on him, both physical and emotional. But that was a lifetime ago, in a place where hope had died, and kindness had withered under the harsh light of reality. Now things are different 300 has changed or maybe 200 had changed?.

. Three years. It had been three years since he'd been taken, experimented on, had his DNA altered and became a freak of nature. He knew because he'd managed to peek at the computer when they dragged him into that dreaded room; the one they used to prod, poke and inject him with god-knows-what. He was considered their only success - meaning their illegal tests hadn't killed him or rendered him paralysed, or worse; brain dead. He was subject 254. And he was the only survivor. At least until she - subject 391 - moved into the cell next door. - - 18th June 2018 - Rank 1 #sciencefiction 17th May 2019 - Rank 4 #romance 22nd Feb 2019 - Rank 1 #superpowers -- ** NOW COMPLETED**
