In all Honesty, Zuko hadn't thought much of Mai in the last two years. Really, he didn't think of much other than finding the Avatar. Thoughts of home... Well, what good were they if he could never return?
But now Mai is in front of him, irrefutably, for the first time in three years. Even after Azula and Ty Lee have gone off to do whatever it is they do when he's not around, Mai is still standing there, like she has something to say.

A year ago I found myself wondering what happened in the relatively short time between season 2 and 3 that ended with Zuko and Mai Becoming a couple. This was born from that query. I was reminded of it today and decided I might as well post it because it's admittedly one of the better things I've ever written, so why not let it see the light of day? It's also the one and only piece of literature I have made for A:TLA.

It is an understatement to say that things ended on 'bad terms' so, when Virra sees Zuko for the first time in five years since he left, things don't go exactly to plan. Virra, a non-bender who is not only good at but enjoys holding grudges tries to find her way after she is left behind by Mai to join Azula's 'elite squad'. She needs to find her place in this story and plans to make good by joining team avatar to redeem herself from the horrible family and nation she comes from. The New Ozai Society has once again been reformed but this time by a new familiar leader. During the Fire Festival Fire Lord Zuko hosts one of Team Avatar's members gets kidnapped. The rest of Team Avatar goes on a journey to save them. During their journey Katara unlocks a new terrifying ability in a life threatening fight, which completely reveals the hidden secrets exposed in Legend of Korra. Meanwhile on the journey Zuko and Sokka grow so close, unclear by what they might discover forced to look into themselves and find a brand new meaning of what love truly is. Once everyone thinks the journey is over something way worse occurs which may result in another World War. The positive and horrendous things discovered by Team Avatar will shape the future of not just the Fire Nation, but the whole world.
