After the disbandment of IZ*ONE, Kim Chaewon goes on to audition for a new group. She meets Huh Yunjin, who used to be her sworn nemesis turned hallway crush: but has quickly accepted her role as Chaewon's best friend.
As the years pass, Chaewon's feelings towards her loveable, energetic best friend only grow: until one day, she has to admit that she is in love with her best friend, Huh Yunjin.
But surely they could stay friends, right?

It was just the touch of a hand, and they'd held hands a million times before; yet as Chaewon looked up to finally and properly meet her eyes, Yunjin forgot how to function.
Chaewon's eyes were big, brown and full of everything Yunjin held dear. Her mouth was slightly parted, and her eyebrows furrowed in curiosity. Her eyes flickered down to their hands, and back up again- but Yunjin's eyes lingered on Chaewon's lips, and the shimmer of her teeth.
Her face grew hotter and hotter until she had to tear her eyes off her best friend. Instead, she stared at her phone on the table and tightened her grip on Chaewon's hand.
"Are you okay?" She heard her best friend's soft voice beside her.
Yunjin didn't dare look back in fear of her eyes wandering off again. "I'm fine," She replied in a whisper.
She wasn't sure if that was true.

Chaewon and Yunjin have been friends for as long as they can remember. They redebuted in Le Serrafim together: ever since, they grew closer and closer. Until one day, they realise that their friendship has grown into something more. Together, they try to navigate these new feelings as they have to keep up with their idol life. Chaewon snapped as she crossed her arms. Yunjin still hasn't let go of her. "You can't just-" "What do you care?" The blonde's anger took over. "Have you been watching me?" Yunjin's cheeks flushed. "You're my best friend, I'm supposed to care." She shot back. "Well, you've done a good job ruining it." Chaewon tried to force Yunjin's hands off. It was to no avail: the redhead only gripped her tighter. "Dance with me." She spoke as she stared at Chaewon, studying every detail of her face. Suddenly, all the anger seemed to dissipate when Chaewon looked back into Yunjin's dark eyes. She was severely wasted, hot, and her mind was all over the place; but Yunjin was her constant. She hated how Yunjin filled her chest with a warmth she couldn't explain. And she hated that she couldn't just keep being angry. But she loved Huh Yunjin. It's been five years since they broke up. Since she broke up with Chaewon, as Yunjin likes to remind herself on her more self-flagellating of days. Chaewon probably doesn't even think about her anymore, because that's what you do when someone breaks your heart; you forget about them, and you move on with your life. It's been five years since Chaewon, and there have been other people since. She's been on dates and had girlfriends and tried out the whole casual thing with Yuri for a while until she met Yena and put a stop to that. Yunjin doesn't delude herself into thinking that Chaewon won't have done the same. Chaewon will have moved on, will have rebuilt her life after Yunjin tore it down. Yunjin is hardly irreplaceable. She's nothing special. It's been five years, which is long enough that it shouldn't still hurt like this, and Yunjin shouldn't still feel so empty inside whenever she thinks about it. Slurs, really, her voice lower and her sentences slower than usual, which is just another reminder that neither of them are really in the right condition to be considering this. She's not wasted, but she's not sober either. "You're drunk, I'm drunk, we're both here, we're both- you know..." No, Chaewon doesn't know. She doesn't know anything anymore because there's no way that Yunjin - HuhYunjin, her best friend for over a decade, of which approximately half of that time Chaewon has been in love with her for, and who has never been anything but painfully, torturously heterosexual - is suggesting what Chaewon thinks she's suggesting.
